I was inspired by Yves Saint Laurent's cage boots and the patterns formed by chainmail armour. I liked the regularity of pattern that I feel is not superficial as it holds the function to protect. Seeking to honour this function in jewellery, I researched the designs of armour finger plates and from them made the pattern of the ring. However to communicate the chainmail pattern I sawed out regular rectangular shapes that flowed with the shape of the ring, similarly to how I would imagine chainmail armour to flow to allow for minimal movement.
